A Call to Both Salvation and Sanctification

When we look at the classic invitation by Jesus recorded in Matthew 11, we find both a call to salvation and to a deeper intimacy with the Lord.  Or, as we would say, the Higher Christian Life.  Let’s take a look at these verses a bit closer.

First, the call to salvation.

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” – Matthew 11:28.

Then, after answering His call to salvation, He offers an invitation to sanctification, to become more like Christ (Rom. 8:29), or to experience the Higher Christian Life.

“Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For My yoke is easy and My burden is light” – Matthew 11:29-30.

In this message, we will look at both calls and how they relate to the Higher Christian Life.  And we will dig into the phrase, “learn from Me” as we discover how to leave Laodicea behind.
